Where We Began

We (Breanna and Yuji) initially began making chocolates for each other during Valentine’s Day and a Japanese holiday known as White Day. In Japan, White Day occurs on March 14th, and it's a holiday where the guy gives back three times what they received on Valentine’s Day. It’s a rather unique tradition that we started doing when we first began dating back in 2019. Three years later, and after eating a staggering amount of  chocolate, they became so delicious that Breanna asked if we should do this as a business - the rest is history. Our name comes from the Japanese artform known as Kintsugi (fixing pottery with gold). "Kin" means "gold," and "suru" is "to do." As such, we are making gold in chocolate form!

Breanna has always enjoyed baking from a young age, often making gourmet cakes and cookies for her friends and family. This passion continued throughout her BSc in biology. As our business got off the ground, her degree proved invaluable when we were conducting shelf-life testing and the science of tempering chocolates.

Yuji has been very entrepreneurial since leaving high school and during his BFA and PBEd, where he has run several other businesses and side projects. His expertise in design and art has helped to elevate our chocolates to where they are today.

Together we have overcome many obstacles in the chocolate-making process and we would not be where we are today without each other. So we made the leap and got engaged! For those wondering, Yuji asked!
